Celebrate the Open Access Week 2023 with HKU Libraries

— by Florence Ng

The International Open Access Week is organized by SPARC in partnership with the Open Access Week Advisory Committee every year, aiming to provide an opportunity for the academic and research community to learn what the potential benefits of Open Access (OA) are, to share what they have learned or their own experience engaging in Open Access, and to help inspire wider participation in helping to make Open Access a new norm in scholarship and research.

This year, the theme of the Open Access Week 2023 is “Community over Commercialization”. This theme encourages a candid conversation about which approaches to open scholarship prioritize the best interests of the public and the academic community—and which do not. It, at the same time, stresses the importance of community control of knowledge sharing systems, leading us to discuss the concerns arising from the current commercialized model in scholarly publishing.

Celebrating the International Open Access Week 2023 from 23 – 29 October, the HKU Libraries is hosting a series of events in relation to Open Access. It does not matter if you are familiar with the topic or not. Just come and join us in our celebration programmes to get to know the concepts, learn about our OA publishing supporting services, or discuss and share your thoughts on the latest trends of the global OA movements. You are invited!
